Governor Training

Aquila offers all Governors and Trustees access to The Key for School Governors online resource library and online training on over 50 topics via the National Governors Association Learning Link. 

In addition to the above, additional more focused training and discussion forums are also available to support governors in their role. These session will be held remotely for the time being. 

Governor Forums

Following the success of our Chairs forum, the central team will be offering more forums for specialist governors this year. 

We have the forums for the groups outlined below but these will be added to in time based on Governors needs and feedback.

New Governor Induction

This session offers an introduction to governance in Aquila. We will consider roles and responsibilities within a MAT, systems and processes that are unique to our trust and operational documents such as our code of conduct. There are three sessions throughout the year and all new governors will be required to attend one of these sessions within the first year of their term of office.

SIAMS for Governors

The Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodists schools is a requirement for all schools with a religious foundation. You will be guided through the new framework by a practising SIAMs Inspector and will cover every aspect of the inspection process from a governors perspective.

Understanding the New Ofsted Framework

Ofsted is is ever changing and so its important for governors to keep up to date with developments. This session will focus on the inspection process and what governors should expect to know as part of the leadership and management element of the inspection.

Ofsted - Meet the Lead Inspector

Sitting in front of the lead inspector knowing that what you say as a governor will have an impact on the whole process can be daunting. The key is knowing what the inspectors are looking for and how to ensure you present your school for everything that it does well (which will be a lot). This session will offer an intrinsic look just how to do that.

The Role of the Chair in Aquila Local Governing Bodies

Chairmanship requires specific and particular skills. Add to that being part of a mix of schools and with a different lines of accountability and responsibility, being a chair in a Multi Academy Trust can be overwhelming. This informal session will look at some of the key responsibilities of the chair in our trust and ensure you get the full support to be effective in the roll.

School Exclusion

While we are committed to reducing exclusions, there are situations where this is unavoidable, possibly because staff and pupils are in danger. This session for is senior leaders and governors to understand their relative roles in the exclusion process. Practical help will be given to guide through the paperwork expected.

Kent MAT Alliance - MAT Governance Training

The session is open to stakeholders that are part of the Kent MAT Alliance: CEOs, Members, Trustees, LGB members and Clerks.
